Drupal Classes

The following classes are available at LVS Online. You can sign up for them by following this link: Schedule.

You can also read more about Drupal in other posts on this blog. Would you like to learn how to make a Recent Posts menu that automatically updates like the one on this site? You will learn this in the Drupal Basics class. Would you like to learn how to make your own theme or make changes to an existing theme? Then the Drupal Themes class is for you. Follow a link below to find out more.

Drupal Basics

The Drupal Basics class is now converted to Drupal 7. Drupal Basics II and Drupal Themes are still on Drupal 6. If you want to take either of them while they are still on Drupal 6, the September 2011 session is your last chance.

Drupal 7

The Drupal Basics I class will be converted to Drupal 7 for the fall session.

Drupal Basics II and Themes will be converted the next session after that.

Drupal 7 is out

The new version of Drupal is out. We will still be using Drupal 6 for our classes though until all the modules we need for the lessons is available for Drupal 7.

Drupal Basics II

I am finishing up lessons for a second Drupal class. It will be ready for the next session. We will be building a Photo site using three important Drupal modules: Content Construction Kit, Views, and Panels.

You will need your own site or can set up Drupal on your own computer then move your site later. I will provide instructions for setting up Drupal on your computer using WAMP or MAMP.

I am really excited about this class and I hope you will be too.

Future Class

A future class is being planned: Drupal Basics II - We will use Panels, Views, and CCK to create a Photo site. Views is a powerful query builder that can build the query you need to display what you want. It is designed to simplify the task of building custom displays with information from the database. Panels divides any pages you choose into incredibly configurable layouts ready to drop in bits of content. It supplies a group of standard layouts that you can choose from or you can customize your own. The Content Construction Kit is commonly known as CCK.

Registration for Sept session is now open.

Drupal Themes class

A new Drupal class is coming in May 2010.

The Drupal Themes class is designed to take you through the development of your own Drupal themes. You will be setting up your own design environment on your personal computers. We will examine the Drupal System and the files that make up a Drupal theme. You will learn how to make a subtheme of an original theme, use a starter theme and style it to suit your needs, and build your own theme from scratch.

Drupal 7.0 Alpha 2 released

The second alpha version of Drupal 7.x was released on February 23, 2010. This version is a test version that was released for further testing and feedback. It is important to note that this alpha version should not be used for production sites. It is expected that there will be at least one more alpha version followed by a few beta versions and at least one release candidate before Drupal 7.0 is finalized.

We will be using Drupal 6 for this class until Drupal 7.0 is finalized and all the modules we use are available.

Blogging Tips

Some people write a blog only as an online journal, and don't really care whether or not people read it. Other people want to have a blog that attracts crowds of readers and generates interesting discussions. Some things to keep in mind as you build your blog are post regularly, remember people are reading, and keep to your theme.
